What Can a Podiatrist Do for You?
If you are experiencing any foot, ankle or lower extremity pain or discomfort, a podiatrist is the most qualified doctor to treat you. At Pasco-Hernando Foot & Ankle we want our patients to be confident that they are receiving the best possible care for their feet. The “DPM” after a podiatrist’s name means Doctor of Podiatric Medicine. Our foot doctors, Lawrence J. Kales, DPM, and Alexis Kreplick, DPM like all licensed podiatrists, have completed years of rigorous training including four years of podiatric medical school and three years of hospital residency training. In addition, Dr. Kales has completed advanced training and clinical experience in order to pass an exam and become Board Certified in several areas of expertise including: Ambulatory Foot Surgery, Ambulatory Lower Extremity Surgery, and Medical Specialties in Podiatric Surgery.
In order to treat your foot ailments and help you resume normal activities the foot doctor is able to:
● Perform comprehensive physical examinations of the lower extremities, including your lower legs, feet, ankles, and toes
● Repair fractures
● Perform surgeries to repair, reconstruct, and alleviate foot problems
● Treat sports injuries
● Order and interpret x-rays and other imaging studies
● Prescribe medications and order physical therapy
● Fit you with custom orthotics, custom-made shoes, and other durable medical goods
The foot doctor will also be able to advise you on preventative care for your feet. Our doctors can educate patients on how to be proactive in the care of feet and ankles and help you establish care regimens that will keep your feet healthy.
Your feet are complex anatomical structures that enable you to walk, stand, jump, run and complete essential tasks necessary for daily living. Don’t trust them to just anybody!
