At Pasco-Hernando Foot & Ankle, we know that many of our Pasco and Hernando county patients put off getting foot or ankle surgery because of the amount of time they think it will take to recover. Our podiatrist, Dr. Lawrence J. Kales, is specially trained in minimal incision surgery, a technique that enables the foot doctor to eliminate many common foot and ankle problems through a small incision in the skin. This results in permanent correction of foot problems while keeping the patient ambulatory throughout the healing process and eliminating extended periods of disability and recovery.

Common Uses

The minimal incision surgery technique can be used for several foot and toe problems, including:

Procedure

Minimally invasive surgery can be performed in our Spring Hill (352 683-5799) or Hudson (727-868-2128) office under local anesthesia and with or without IV sedation. The surgeon will use a small instrument (not much larger than a pen point) and make an incision that is usually no longer than 1/8-1/4 inch. Using a fluoroscope, bones and growths can be visualized in order to reposition, straighten or eliminate them. In most cases, only one or two stitches are all that is required to close the very tiny incision.

Rapid Recovery

Normally, the postoperative recovery period usually only requires no more than one day off your feet and little or no time off from work depending on your occupation. Patients who have digital surgery to permanently cure bone spurs and corns can usually go back to wearing their own shoes in just 1-3 days.
